Arcade Manufacturing Inc.
The Arcade Company is most famous for its cast iron toy such as cars, trucks, and doll houses. But before Arcade earned its fame for the toys, there was the heyday for coffee grinders. Arcade made a variety of attractive wall mills starting in the late 1800s. Arcade’s coffee mills are now highly collectible among the collectors all around the world. Some of the popular coffee grinders are the Crystal, Telephone Mills, X-Ray, Royal, the Jewel, the Bell, and lastly the Golden Rule.
Landers, Frary & Clark
Incorporated in 1865, Landers, Frary & Clark made a wide range of household products for nearly 100 years. I found a great article, “The Saga of Landers, Frary & Clark” written by Earl Lifshey on this company. To learn more about the company, read this article. Here is a quote from the article that pretty much sums it up.
“This is the story of Landers, Frary & Clark and its service to the American home. For more than a century three able men, active in the industrial, political and cultural life in New Britain and in Connecticut, were the principal actors in our little story. But the real theme is the changing pattern of American living in the past 100 years and of the company’s contribution to this changing pattern, because Landers has been making products for the American home for nearly twelve decades and its success has been due to ability to change products with the changing times.”
